Sol Nal - Korean Lunar New Year Party

We headed to Southfield this weekend to celebrate the Korean Lunar New Year with other Korea adoptive families. The kids (mine and others) looked wonderful dressed in their hanboks. The food was DELICIOUS! And the activities were very fun! We even won 4 raffle prizes and chose some really nice things - some books written in English and Hangul and a soft Asian boy baby doll that I have been wanting for Simon - Yay! Here are some photos.....

Anna attempting to use "real" chopsticks - we have trainer ones for her at home Simon LOVED the rice :-)

Family Photo - Anna was distracted by the Korean musical instruments in the front of the room

Anna got to try out some of the fans the dancers used

Simon was sure the drum stick was for eating :-)

Then, he figured out he could make noise with it

He was NOT happy when we took the drumstick away

Anna and I at the tea ceremony

Anna really liked the tea

We all had a great time and can't wait until next year!

Finally!

The weather has been so crazy around here - a foot of new snow one day, 40 degrees and rainy the next, freezing rain the next - who can keep up!!! It has taken it's toll on Joel's back yard ice rink. Yesterday was the first day that the rink was really READY. So, out we went to test it out. Anna had a great time making up games to play with the hockey pucks and is continuing to get better at skating. It was a pretty nice day here, for a winter day. The sun was out and Joel thought it was downright balmy outside - notice the lack of coat and gloves :-) Joel could have stayed out there all day dressed like that - I was bundled and only lasted for about 1/2 an hour :-) It's a good thing that we got our skating in yesterday, because today it is 40 and rainy and the rink is in sad shape. There is more snow coming tomorrow, so who knows when the rink will be "READY" again :-)

Daddy-Daughter Date at the.....

Hockey rink???? Yeah, not my first choice for a date night, but Anna was in her glory. A friend of Joel's was taking his daughter and had extra tickets, so off they went. Anna wore her little Red Wings jersey and had a great time. The bonus of the night was that it was dollar dogs night at the arena, so she got to snack on one of her all time favorite foods :-)

No, she is not actually cheering - she is trying to catch one of the many things that are launched into the crowd during intermissions

Happy Valentines Day!

We celebrated Valentines day with a not-so-quiet evening at home - just the 4 of us :-) Anna helped decorate the dining room with hearts galore and daddy cooked us one of our favorite meals - fettuccine alfredo. Everyone had a little valentines gift at their place and of course, chocolate :-)

Snow Baby or Green Monster - You Decide :-)

This morning was very cold outside and I didn't feel like layering Simon in all his "stuff" just to take Anna to school, so I grabbed this one-piece fleece snow suit that used to be Anna's - sshhhhh - don't tell Simon that he is wearing his sister's clothes :-) He was a little annoyed at not having access to his hands, but he did put up with mom snapping a few photos. He just looked so cute all bundled up!

You can't take your eyes off of the boy....

for even a second :-) I hear Anna yelling "no, Simon, no" from the living room and walk back into the room to find this. Yes, he was very proud of himself and his pile of tissues. And I am the mom who grabs the camera BEFORE redirecting him. That will teach me to leave the tissue box below waist level :-)

No, he is not eating the tissue, he is wiping his nose :-)
